Al and Clydine with Grace and Spencer and Christie before she leaves Training Center Grace Chillin

Hi David, thought you might like to see what I and my Husband, Al have been up to lately!!
I shop at Royal Spendor on the internet and at the Red Hat Functions, Mainly in Montana when my girls and I travel to the Convergences.  Love your products and you love of animals. You sent me information on your Bowls, vases etc. that you create for loved ones who have lost their pets and I did forward some of the brochures on to a few interested people, that being said, our family has increased since last Saturday when my husband, Al and I along with our 3 year old Shitzu, Tanner drove to Sherwood, Park, Alberta to pick out our new rescue dog, which we have named Grace.
Here is a short background on Grace and her litter mates along with their Mom, Emma! that I had sent to my Red Hat Friends:
Just wanted to let all of you know that we have added to our "family" here in Arrowwood.  Our beloved Grace was picked up from her original rescuer just outside Sherwood Park, Alberta.  Spencer Sekyer was volunteering in Kabul, Afghanistan and found 7 puppies in the gutter and just couldn't leave them there to die.  He brought them back to the school where he was a volunteer teacher which was 10 to 12 KM away from where he had found these poor little pups.  The mother was out searching for food and found her own way to the school where the puppies had been taken by Spencer.  He managed to get them to a No Kill Shelter, NOWZAD in Kabul where they stayed along with the Mom for approximately 18 months while Spencer worked diligently to raise enough money to get them to Alberta where he could find homes for each of them.  I can't imagine what a struggle they and other animals as well as the children and adults have gone through with the War, I can't even begin to come close to describe what it must be like.
Spencer and his wife, Christie raised approximately $28,000.00 for their upkeep and transportation to get them to Canada.  I know they had lots of news media and emails for and against what he has accomplished, he did it from the heart for sure.  After meeting the Sekyers' you can tell right away they have the biggest hearts and they love each of the pups and the mom and are really doing intense background check and in home assessments to place each animal in a loving environment.  We are so blessed that they trusted Al and I to take a pup (now almost 2 years old) without an actual in house assessment.  Thanks to the references of Dr. Eldon Hall of Vulcan and Dr. Jim Bailey of Great Falls, Montana (especially our Jim) the Sekyers felt confident in allowing us the honor to care and love this precious beauty.  These dogs have been through so much, we realize the commitment that it will take and are fully in agreement to work and make our Grace feel at home with Tanner, Smokey, Patches and Squeek.  We picked her out yesterday and spent some time with her and a trainer who has offered her services at no charge to the approved new parents of these wonders.  I did work with her for over an hour by then Grace was exhausted and needed some quiet time.  I do plan to travel up again to spend time with Grace and trainer Leanne Barker, who was the lead trainer for the dolphins, seals etc. at West Edmonton Mall.  Her new facility is incredible and she has done some fantastic training, she actually trains Trainers!!  She has worked with a variety of animals including wolves, young as well as  full grown.
I intend to keep in touch with the Sekyers, Leanne and eventually all the other owners of the rescue pups.  I am going to try to arrange yearly reunions so we can all follow the progress of these dogs and their lives.  Grace is very timid actually the most timid off all the pups and that is why we chose her as we realized that she needs extra love, care and patience and we are willing to provide that for her.  Tanner and the cats said they would help out and Patches has already joined in the first walk when we got home last night.  She came most of the way but because it was so windy she decided to wait at the edge of the property till we returned then checked out Grace and came into the yard with her.  Smokey did check out Grace but has decided to give her extra space and is visiting until his nose returns to the proper place, with his second home, our neighbors Heather and Roger Montgomery.  They said it was ok for him to take over the chairs, coach and their bed until he decides he wants to come home and join in the fun again!!!  He can be such a snob for a cat!!  Right, he runs the house, but don't tell him or he will really take advantage of us.
Having some quiet time this afternoon, Grace is sleeping in her open crate in the front room, Tanner is on his bed beside the crate so he is watching her as well.

Will update everyone to let you know how our new family is doing.

David, we are so blessed to have Grace join our family and every day she trusts just a little more.  She has been following on lead behind Tanner quite well and will come out of the crate when she knows it is walk time.  I have given her lots of space as she is still quite timid and loud noises really upset her so we try to keep things low key and fairly quiet for now.  She stays in her crate most of the time, as I mentioned, with the door open, her safe haven I am sure.  Smokey has returned home and is resigned to the fact that Grace is her to stay, so he has decided to put on his big Kitty undies and deal with it!!

I will attach a picture of Grace Chilln' in her crate and one of Al and I and the Sekyers when we were ready to leave to bring her home to Arrowwood.  My Hubby Al is standing (with a beard) and I am on the right in red, the Sekyers, Spencer and Christie have Grace on the lead.

Thought you might like to add this to the Red Hat Animal stories that are so welcome to read on your web site.

Take Care and I will touch base again to let you know how Grace is doing.

Regards
